The YPO alpha prefix is one that North Carolina has assigned to all members with a Blue plan in Maryland that participate in the Away From Home Care (AFHC) program. Member identification cards with the YPO alpha prefix are only able to receive services when rendered by North Carolina providers.

If an AFHC member has services rendered by a South Carolina provider, they are to present their BlueCross BlueShield of Maryland identification card. Claims would need to be filed to the local plan using the appropriate prefix (not YPO) for it to go to Maryland for reimbursement.
